COSIA: delivering environmental performance

Better energy requires innovation and collaboration. That's why Total is a member of Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA), an alliance of 13 oil sands producers focused on accelerating the pace of improvement in environmental performance in Canada's oil sands.

Accelerating environmental performance

The challenges oil sands producers face are not unique, and in 2012, industry came together to address these challenges. As a founding member of Canada’s Oil Sands Innovation Alliance (COSIA), Total works with 12 of Canada’s largest heavy oil producers to accelerate environmental performance of the oil sands. Representing 90% of Alberta’s oil sands production, COSIA’s member companies work collectively to share ideas and technologies that will help achieve faster improved environmental results in four environmental priority areas including Land, Tailings, Water and Greenhouse Gases.

Breaking new ground in collaboration

Since its launch, COSIA member companies have been working to build a foundation for future success. To date, they have shared 560 distinct environmental technologies and innovations that cost over $900M to develop and created global precedent setting legal agreements, allowing companies to share like never before. COSIA is breaking new ground on what it means to collaborate across industry, academia and partner organizations.
